This rifle is complete with the original sheet metal front sight cover, the original blued cleaning rod and is complete with a unmarked black cross-hatched WWI K98 leather sling.Military jeep surplus parts. The underside of the stock has the matching serial number with a small "SS" Death's-Head proof directly below that with no other proofs or Waffenamt. It is currently fitted with the original WWII laminated stock and hand guard. It is fitted with the correct bolt assembly which has the correct combination of stamped numbered parts along with the bolt body, safety, cocking piece and floor plate correctly numbered using the etched number process only found on "bnz" contract rifles with the remaining parts having either the full or partial (last two digits ) of the serial number. This rifle has all the early milled components, such as the second pattern (solid with no cutouts) front barrel band with the wide milled middle barrel band, milled trigger guard and floor plate. The barrel is fitted with the standard inverted "v" front sight, with the original military style tangent rear sight graduated from 1-20 (100-2000 meters). The left rear section of the barrel has the correct and original "Eagle/SS runes ZZA4" inspection stamp followed by the serial number (6669, with no letter suffix) over the WaA623 Waffenamt proof. Additionally, the receiver is marked with the single number "1" for the Astra Werke factory in Chemnitz, a supplier of receivers for Steyr and for the Gustloff Werke of Suhl. (See backbone of the Wehnmacht, pg.196 Note #44) The top of the receiver ring is marked "bnz", the wartime code for Steyr, over "43" with "Mod. ![]() ![]() However some feel that the SS did the assembly and inspection outside the Steyr factory. The Steyr-Daimler factory was the only factory of record that made contract rifles directly for the "SS" during World War II. These rifles were all produced in their own serial number range without any letter suffix and were manufactured specifically under contract for the "SS". ![]() This is literally just a fantastic all original, unaltered and like new mid-WWII "bnz" Steyr factory "SS" contract k98 bolt rifle. ![]()
